Philosophy and Neuroscience:
I became deeply interested in the interplay of philosophy and neuroscience, exploring the nature of consciousness, perception, and human experience. Influenced by thinkers such as Sam Harris, Alan Watts, Daniel Dennett, David Chalmers, and Carl Jung, I am drawn to understanding the mind through both ancient and contemporary lenses.
What has become a lifelong pursuit of philosophical inquiry, from Pre-Socratic thought to contemporary debates, now informs my approach to life and work. This holistic humanist perspective cultivates a curiosity-driven, compassionate, and problem-solving mindset, essential for innovative design solutions with a humanity centred intention.
Movement:
Growing up in rural Australia, sport was central to my life. My interests varied broadly, participating in everything from team sports (Rugby league, cricket etc.) to gymnastics, to water sports and martial arts. I have always had a passion for movement and later discovered the philosophy and training of Ido Portal and his non-specialized movement practice that validated my belief in physical and mental adaptability to be proficient generally - 'specialisation is for insects'.
This grew into a personal philosophy using 'movement' as a polysemy. I see it as a solution to most personal problems we face, whether I need to move my body (exercise), move my eyes across the page of a book (shift perspective), or move locations it has held true for me that movement viewed this way is a key to life. being familiar with movement helps me better understand the stationary environment that my work is dedicated to.
Games and Play:
A strong advocate for the power of play, I believe it is essential for focusing creativity, problem-solving, and overall well-being. My love of chess, board games and video games, and expression through artistic play and making reflects this belief. Through these pursuits, I've developed a keen understanding of game theory rules, strategy, and the importance of experimentation. I strive to infuse this playful spirit into my design work, creating spaces and experiences that inspire joy, curiosity, and engagement.
